This ancient red garnet bead comes from gem gravels in Sri Lanka. Mukkaru is belived to be an ancient race that was specialist in all thing gem oriented, including making beads of glass and gemstones. It is belived that they were offerings to the spirits for luck in mining and were thrown in to old mines .
According to the experts the materials could be dated to periods within the first to twelfth century AD.
