Alexandrite was discovered in 1830 in Russia's Ural mountains, and at the suggestion of Finnish geologist Nils Von Nordenskjold the stone was named Alexandrite in honour of Alexander Nikolayevich, Czar Alexander ll. Now found in Sri Lanka, Brazil, Madagascar, Tanzania and India. A very rare gemstone.
